There’s good news for owners of the top-of-the-line version of the latest Tata Tigor and Tiago. The ConnectNext touchscreen-enabled infotainment system by Harman on the ZX+ variant of both cars has been updated to support Apple CarPlay. Tata Motors quietly disseminated the news about the software update on its official YouTube channel in the form of a quick video clip. The update will be available to both new and existing units of the ZX+ variant of the Tigor and Tiago.
What this means is that Apple iPhone users will now be able to use the Apple CarPlay functionality on their top-end Tata Tigor or Tiago for easy navigation, calling, and music playback. While the infotainment system on new units of both models is expected to come with the Apple CarPlay update baked right into it, the system on existing Tigor and Tiago units can be updated manually by an authorised Tata service personnel. Android users needn’t bother as the system already supports Android Auto.
While the Tigor is a compact sub-four-metre saloon from the maker of the famous Tata Nano, the Tiago is a hatchback version of the same. Both cars only recently received the top-of-the-line ZX+ variant, which comes with a 7-inch touchscreen enabled ConnectNext infotainment system by Harman, among other exclusive features. It also has a total of eight speakers, four of which are tweeters. Other variants of the Tata Tigor and Tiago, sadly, get only a non-touchscreen version of ConnectNext by Harman.
Both the Tata Tigor and Tiago come powered by either a Revotron three-cylinder 1.2-litre petrol motor (producing 85 horsepower) or a Revotorq three-cylinder 1.05-litre diesel motor (producing 70 horsepower). Both engines are BS IV-compliant and are mated to a five-speed manual gearbox but the petrol version alone gets the option of a five-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). In late 2017, Tata Motors agreed to supply 250 units of the Tata Tigor EV, an electric version of the Tigor, to the Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL).
