Reliance Jio has reportedly dethroned Airtel to become the second largest telecom player in the Indian market. Jio is also estimated to rapidly close the gap between the number one player Vodafone-Idea, and maybe overtake it in about four months. However, Vodafone is not waiting for that to happen as it is aggressively refreshing its own offerings. The company has quietly listed a new Rs 139 plan on its website, which comes with 2GB 4G/3G data with 100 SMS for 28 days. Under the recharge, Vodafone users also get to avail an unlimited local and STD calling, along with roaming benefits.
We checked to find that the new recharge plan is not available in all Vodafone circles. It is currently active in Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and NCR, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, and UP East. This new prepaid recharge by the telco sits between its already existing Rs 129 and Rs 159 plans. With the Rs 129 plan, users get unlimited calling, along with 1.5GB 3G/4G data and 100 SMS per day for 28 days. The Rs 159 plan also comes with unlimited calling and offers varying benefits in differing Vodafone circles.
The newest recharge plan by Vodafone goes up directly against Jio’s Rs 98 plan that offers 2GB of data for 28 days. Jio users also get unlimited calling and 300 SMS, and complimentary access to Jio’s suite of apps. The company has also teamed up with Sony Liv to bring digital content on mobile devices via its downloadable Vodafone Play or Idea Movies & TV app. It also recently unveiled a Rs 16 plan called the ‘Filmy Recharge’ option that offers 1GB 2G/3G/4G data for one day, without any SMS or calling benefits.
