Xiaomi's sub-brand Redmi has launched two phones, the Redmi Y3 and the Redmi 7, in India. Both the phones ship with Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 under the hood and have same 4000mAh battery. Both the phones have a dot-notch that house the front shooters, and a dual camera setup on the back. While Redmi Y3 is a selfie-focussed device aimed at youth, the Redmi 7 targets the budget smartphone market.
At the start of the launch event, Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi India Managing Director, said that the company is now looking forward to opening Mi Studios in 50 more cities, over 10,000 offline retail stores by the end of 2019, and aims to increase the sales to 50 percent through offline channels by year-end. When talking about the online sales, Jain claimed that Xiaomi captured 52 percent market share in the last quarter and the company has been the top online selling brand from nine consecutive quarters.
Redmi Y3 and Redmi 7 prices and launch offers:The Redmi Y3 comes in two variants : 3GB RAM + 32GB local storage priced at Rs 9,999, and 4GB RAM and 64GB local storage that will cost users Rs 11,999. It will be available on Amazon.in, Mi.com and Mi homes. The phone will soon be available on Mi Studio, Mi Stores and Mi preferred partner stores. The first sale will be at 12 pm on April 30, and Airtel users can get up to 1120 GB of 4G data, and unlimited calling.
The base variant of the Redmi 7 is offered in 2GB RAM and 16GB storage option, which is priced at Rs 7,999, and the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage version that will cost buyers Rs 8,999. The first sale will be on 12 pm on April 29 and, just like the Redmi Y3, it will be available on Amazon.in, Mi.com and Mi homes. The phone will soon be available on Mi Studio, Mi Stores and Mi preferred partner stores. Jio users can get double data for up to 4 years, and Rs 2,400 cashback.
Redmi Y3 specifications:The Redmi Y3 sports a 6.26-inch HD+ Dot Notch display protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The display has a resolution of 1520x720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. It comes with an Aura Prism Design in black, red and blue colours. Xiaomi says that the back panel, which has a fingerprint sensor, comes with a P2i hydrophobic coating to give some level of water resistance. The phone also comes with a 3.5mm jack and an IR blaster.
Under the hood, the dual-SIM phone comes with an Octa-core Snapdragon Qualcomm 632 processor, coupled with two RAM options. The phone runs MIUI 10 based on Android Pie 9, and draws power from 4000mAh battery. When it comes to the camera, the phone ships with a 32MP front sensor with Electronic Image Stabalization (EIS). Xiaomi says that the phone can record video in Full HD resolution at 30fps.
On the back is a dual-camera setup featuring a 12MP primary sensor with 1.25um pixel size, and a 5pc lens with an aperture of f/2.2. The camera comes with PDAF, and 33 AI scene detection feature as well as EIS support. The rear camera can record videos in Full HD resolution at 60fps. There is a 2MP depth sensor, and a single tone LED flash that completes the camera module.
Redmi 7 specifications:The Redmi 7 has already launched in China and features a 6.26-inch HD+ display that offers an aspect ratio of 19:9 and has a Dot Notch. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor coupled with two RAM options. The Redmi 7 has a 3.5mm headphone jack on top, and a fingerprint sensor on the back panel. The back panel has the “Redmi by Xiaomi” branding on a P2i coated back panel.
In the camera department, the Redmi 7 sports a 12MP primary sensor with 1.25um pixel size and 1/2.9 aperture lens. There is a 2MP secondary depth sensor, and the camera setup comes with AI features. On the front is an 8MP camera, which is housed in the Dot Notch. The Redmi 7 has a 4000mAh battery, and the phone comes bundled with 18W charger. The Redmi 7 runs MIUI 10 based on Android 9.0 Pie.
Xiaomi also launched the Mi Smart Bulb, which it launched at MWC in Barcelona earlier this year. The Mi Smart Bulb comes with Alexa and Google Assistant integration and can be controlled via Mi Home App. Xiaomi claims that the bulb has 16 million colours and a 11-year long life. The crowdfunding of the Mi Smart Bulb will start at 12pm on April 26 on Mi.com.
