As the mobile gaming industry rises, the popularity of gaming smartphones continues to soar. In the past six months, popular OEMs have launched gaming phones in different markets, and now Asus is looking to capture some of the market share with its second ROG phone soon. A media report has said that Asus will launch the ROG Phone 2 on July 23 in China. Asus and Tencent games have already announced their partnership for the launch of the next iteration of the ROG Phone. This makes the ROG Phone 2 Asus’ first gaming phone since the agreement.
The report also claims that the gaming flagship will be launched at an event in Beijing, and the company is expected to showcase the phone at the ChinaJoy 2019 expo that is scheduled to take place from August 1 in Shanghai. The details of the phone are not known yet but it is expected that the ROG Phone 2 will have a Snapdragon 855 chipset under the hood. Asus will reportedly launch the phone in two variants, with the base model carrying a price tag of CNY 4,399 (approx Rs 44,000).
Thanks to the partnership with Chinese fighting game “Under the One Man,” the one thing we know for sure is that the phone will sport a display with a 120Hz refresh rate. This is higher than the 90Hz refresh rate in its predecessor's display. Only the original Razer Phone and the Razer Phone 2 have 120Hz displays but they are IPS LCD panels. There is no information on whether the ROG Phone 2 will feature an OLED display or LCD display. The ROG Phone 2 may offer up to 12GB of RAM. Further, the partnerships with the two gaming firms could help Asus in improving the overall gaming experience. There is a possibility that the company offers a dedicated “gaming mode” that would be optimised by Tencent.
