Firefox has been working hard to find its way to the top in the web browsers rivalry. As a part of its efforts, Mozilla Corporation, the developer of Firefox, will reportedly include a feature in Firefox 70 that will alert users if their passwords are found in data breaches. This will be done through the developer’s partnership with “Have I Been Pwned?” -- a website that allows internet users to check if their personal data has been compromised by data breaches.

Bleeping Computer explains that Firefox will scan the saved login names and passwords, and then it will browse through a data breach listed on Have I Been Pwned. Firefox will do it to find matches for the user ID and password, and if found, Firefox will alert the users and prompt them to change their passwords. “This new feature will only work for data breaches that exposed passwords and when the password was saved prior to an associated data breach,” Bleeping Computer noted.

Mozilla is reportedly integrating its independent Firefox Monitor service and the new Firefox Lockwise password manager directly into Firefox. It is also said to be “considering premium services based around these features in the future.” When a saved login is detected as being part of a breach, Mozilla will add an alert icon next to the account profile in Firefox Lockwise. Users can click on that icon to learn more about the data breach. Moreover, Mozilla is reportedly planning to display stats for the number of data breaches a particular login was involved.

Recently, Mozilla launched Firefox Preview, a mobile pilot browser app for Android. The company said that the polished version of the flagship application would focus on “safety, privacy and independence”. It essentially follows the company’s previous privacy-focused product Firefox Focus that was launched about two and a half years ago. Firefox says that the new application is powered by Firefox’s own mobile browser engine GeckoView that fuels its Focus app.
