Just a couple of months after launching the ROG Zephyrus M GU502 gaming laptop in India at Rs 1,42,990, Asus is dropping what appears to be a more affordable version of the same. Without any fuss or fanfare, Asus quietly launched the ROG Zephyrus G GA502 in India today at a price of Rs 99,990. Asus’ new gaming laptop is currently available on Flipkart with cashback offers on HDFC Bank debit cards and Flipkart Axis Bank credit cards.
The Asus ROG Zephyrus G GA502 is powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 processor and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card with 6GB of video RAM. System RAM is 16GB and storage is taken care of by a 512GB PCIe NVMe solid-state drive. The RAM is upgradeable to 32GB and there’s an additional empty M.2 slot for a second solid-state drive. The display on the laptop is a 15.6-inch IPS LCD panel with a Full HD resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.
Going by the pictures attached with the press release, the ROG Zephyrus G GA502 is a spitting image of the ROG Zephyrus M GU502. We expect the Taiwanese laptop manufacturer to have changed only the internals of the new Zephyrus. In our review of the ROG Zephyrus M GU502, we noted that, with its Intel 9th Gen Core i7 CPU—combined with the same Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card—the laptop was ideal for everyday computing and gaming. Though only a full review of Asus’ new gaming laptop will give us all the details, it’s easy to see how Asus was able to make the ROG Zephyrus G GA502 more affordable than its 'M' counterpart. Apart from the obvious switch in the CPU, Asus has made small but critical changes in the display and keyboard departments. While the 1.9-kilogramme ROG Zephyrus M GU502 employs a 144Hz 3ms PANTONE-validated IPS LCD panel, the 2.1-kilogramme ROG Zephyrus G GA502 gets a 120Hz IPS LCD panel with no claim of covering 100 percent of the colours in the sRGB colour space. The keyboard has also ditched RGB backlighting for a single (white) colour backlighting under the keys. Stay tuned for a proper review.
