Google has rolled out the August 2019 security patches for Pixel and Android devices. According to the latest Android Security Bulletin, the patch has fixed an array of vulnerabilities ranging from moderate to high. The fix includes updates to the framework, media framework, system, Android runtime, and Qualcomm components. When it comes to Pixel devices, this month’s patch adds improvements for “Saved WiFi network configuration” and “WiFi CaptivePortalLogin stability.” The Pixel 3a and 3a XL will also receive improvements in sleep mode.
The August Android security patch has also been rolled out to the aging Essential Phone. In August 2017 and 2018, Google rolled out the final build of its OS before launching its next generation of Pixel flagship (Pixel 3) smartphones in October. Last year, the August Android security patch was a part of the Android 9 Pie OS update. According to the timeline provided by Google, Android Q will be rolled out in the third quarter of 2019, so we can expect it by September-end.
In October, the Mountain View-based company is likely to launch the Pixel 4 with Soli motion-sensing radar, which will enable Motion Sense and Face Unlock functionalities. Along with it, the phone is said to ship with a single shooter. The phone is expected to sport a triple rear camera setup with one of them touted to be a ToF sensor. The Google Pixel 4 is expected to come with a display sporting a 2280 x 1080 pixel resolution with a 19:9 aspect ratio. Similarly, the Pixel 4XL is touted to sport a 3040 x 1440 resolution display with the same 19:9 aspect ratio.
Both smartphones are expected to come with 128GB of storage, however, it is still unclear if that will be its base variant. The storage will be coupled with 6GB RAM, which will be the first time any Pixel device has more than 4GB RAM. The phones are likely to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset.
