It was back in February this year that we got the first hint of Realme's plans to make its own version of the Android operating system. In a more recent development, which seems a lot more definite, Realme has confirmed the development of such an operating system. Called RealmeOS, the new software is expected to be based on the upcoming Android Q. Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth reportedly confirmed this development while talking to India Today at an event based on the OEM's upcoming 64MP camera technology.

While Sheth confirmed that Realme's  own flavour of Android was in the works, he reportedly did not get into the specifics of it.  Until now Realme has relied on Oppo (and its ColorOS) to bring software to its devices but with RealmeOS on the way, that should change. It's hard to guess how Realme might garnish its flavour of Android but speculations online indicate at a ROM that is close to the stock version of Android (like OnePlus, for  example).

Earlier this year, we learnt that Realme had filed a patent application with the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office for something called “RealmeOS”, which was the first clue that a Realme-flavoured Android was on the way. Around that time, we also read reports of Realme looking for ways to complement its new software with a proprietary app store. If it turns out that way, we can expect Realme smartphones to come with their own app marketplace set as default instead of Google Play Store.

More recently, we learnt that Realme's first smartphone with the much-awaited 64MP quad-camera technology could be called the Realme 5. How did we know? Sheth had quietly changed his Twitter handle to “Madhav ‘5’ Quad”. The CEO had played a similar stunt just before the launch of the Realme X. Realme is expected to be the first smartphone OEM to equip its models with a 64MP camera, which is essentially the Bright GW1 developed by Samsung.
