There have been reports that claim that Reliance Jio will launch its much-awaited Jio GigaFiber service at the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on August 12. It is expected that the company will disrupt the Internet Service Provider (ISP) market like it did with Jio tariffs. A new report has now claimed that the company may launch three Jio GigaFiber packs and that they may not be priced competitively with other ISPs in the country.
According to brokerage firm Bank of America- Merrill Lynch, Reliance may introduce three offerings: standard broadband, broadband + TV services, and broadband + TV + IoT devices. It also says that although these services may not be as affordable as people expect it to be, it should attract potential consumers due to the value for money offered along with the bundled offerings. Further, the firm said that Reliance Jio might also announce a landline service, which will come bundled with all the three packs mentioned above.
“We expect a lot of new information on Jio’s pure fibre-based home broadband and enterprise business launches at RIL’s 42nd AGM, and see RIL looking to give visibility on a phased commercial launch timeline, and perhaps pricing as well of the fibre broadband services,” Bank of America- Merrill Lynch said in a note to clients, which was seen by ET Telecom. It should be noted that Reliance Jio hasn’t confirmed any details about the commercial launch of the fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services.
Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Chairman, had first announced the Jio GigaFiber service last year at the company's annual general meeting. Registrations started on August 15 last year and trials for the service have been underway since. The company has already announced that the service will be made available simultaneously in 1,600 cities across India. RIL had acquired 51.34 percent shares in Hathway and 58.92 percent stake in Den Networks last year, likely to meet its goal of providing the service. In the selected areas where the Jio GigaFiber service is already present, the company offers 100GB of free data at 100Mbps speeds every month.
