Fans of Xiaomi Android One smartphones are in for a treat. According to a recent report by Smartprix, the new Xiaomi Mi A3 could be launched in India on August 23. The news of the launch date reportedly comes from a “well-placed industry source”. The new Mi A3 is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage space. Like its previous generations, the Mi A3 will support Android One, giving the user a near-stock experience of the latest Android OS.
The Xiaomi Mi A3 is essentially an Android One version of the Xiaomi CC9e, which was recently launched in China. The display on the Mi A3 is a 19.5:9, 6.01-inch Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1560 x 720 pixels. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The rear panel sports a triple camera setup: a Sony IMX586 48MP primary sensor with an aperture of f/1.8, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor with an aperture of f/2.2, and a 2MP depth sensor with an aperture of f/2.4. The selfie camera, which is housed in a small notch, is a 32MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.0.
The battery on the Mi A3 has been bumped up in terms of capacity. While the Mi A2 came with a 3000mAh unit, the Mi A3 gets a 4030mAh unit with 18W fast charging. A near-stock version of Android 9 Pie is what one can expect from the Mi A3, right after unboxing it. In Europe, the Mi A3 sells in three colours, namely “Not Just Blue”, “More Than White”, and “Kind of Gray”. Like many other Xiaomi models, the Mi A3 comes with an inbuilt IR blaster to double as a remote.
Most smartphone reviewers in the industry will agree that the Xiaomi Mi A2 has aged quite well. Launched in India about a year ago, the Mi A2 currently sells for as little as Rs 9,999, which is only two-thirds of its original launch price. That said, the new Mi A3 is a pleasant upgrade. While the phone’s spec sheet looks mostly promising, we wish it sported a display with a higher resolution. Still, only a proper review of the new Mi A3 will tell us if the new Xiaomi Android One model is any good.
