PM Narendra Modi launched 5G telecom services at the inauguration ceremony of the India Mobile Congress. The India Mobile Congress commonly known as the IMC is organized by the Department of Telecommunications and the Cellular Operators Association of India.

Right after announcing the launch of 5G services in India at the event, the Prime Minister even got to check out the demos set up by different telecom operators. At the launch event, three major telecom companies that include Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea had a major presence. Each of the three operators demonstrated the potential of 5G in India which would be available in the coming months.

5G services finally launched in India

An official statement reads, "5G can unleash new economic opportunities and societal benefits, giving it the potential for being a transformational force for Indian society. It will help the country leapfrog the traditional barriers to development, spur innovations by startups and business enterprises as well as advance the 'Digital India' vision."

According to the Ministry of Communications, the launch of 5G services follows years of preparation. Recently, 5G spectrum auctions were conducted successfully and 51,236 MHz was allocated to Telecom Service Providers with gross revenue of ₹1,50,173 crore.

Lt. Gen. Dr. S P Kochhar, DG, COAI also stated, "We are honored and thankful to our Honorable Prime Minister for launching first 5G services at IMC 2022. We are excited about the long-awaited 5G launch in India. Telecom operators are geared up to provide the high-speed services that are poised to transform the consumer experience. 5G will open new avenues for each sector from manufacturing, healthcare, and augmented entertainment to even smart city projects by integrating with new-age technologies like IoT, M2M learning, drones, AI, and big data analytics. We will see a multifaceted impact in terms of creating opportunities for people and businesses that have the potential to completely change the economic landscape of India. With a goal of reaching a $5 trillion economy by 2025, 5G is the road map for the socio-economic development and future prosperity of our nation.”

Further, even Realme CEO Madhav Sheth on the occasion of the launch said, “With 5G being officially available now, we are looking forward to exploring the numerous opportunities it provides to us and will be directing our efforts into making this technology even more accessible to users.”

“We have partnered with the leading telcos in India and have curated a host of bundle offers for our users. 85% of our devices already support SA and 100% of our devices will have full SA support by October. We are also rolling out OTA updates for our devices to ensure that all our users can make the most of 5G.”
