Primebook 4G and Lenovo IdeaPad 3 Chromebook are two of the laptops priced at ₹15,990 on Flipkart. Here, we compare them both to see which one should you buy. More importantly, should you buy an Android laptop over a Chromebook?
For the purposes of this article, we will be calling both of them laptops only (which they technically are).
1. DesignLenovo IdeaPad 3 Chromebook
Both laptops come in black colour. Even though Primebook is classified as a thin and light laptop (281 X 192 X 19.3 mm, 1.065 Kg), both of them are lightweight machines. The dimensions of the Lenovo laptop are 286.7 x 205.5 x 18.05 mm and it weighs 1.12 Kg.
Primebook offers a customisable keyboard and touchpad support.
2. InternalsBoth Lenovo and Primebook claim up to 10 hours of battery life.
Lenovo equips the Chromebook with a 45W USB-C charger. Primebook has got a 24W charger in comparison.
Lenovo IdeaPad 3 Chromebook runs on an Intel Celeron Dual Core processor (N4020) clocked at up to 2.8 GHz frequency. Meanwhile, the Primebook laptop has a MediaTek Kompanio 500 (MT8788) processor inside. It has a max frequency of up to 2.0 GHz.
The Lenovo laptop has an Intel-integrated UHD graphics card whereas the Primebook ships with MediaTek integrated ARM Mali G72 GPU.
Both Primebook and Lenovo offer 4GB LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB of EMMC storage. While Primebook supports up to 200GB of expandable storage, Lenovo also comes with micro SD card reader support.
3. PortsWhen it comes to connectivity, with the IdeaPad 3 Chromebook, you get 2x USB-C (3.2 Gen 1 with support for Power Delivery and DisplayPort), a 3.5mm headphone jack, and 2x USB-A (3.2 Gen 1) ports, dual-band WiFi ac, and Bluetooth 4.2.
The Primebook laptop gives you 2x USB-A (one of them 2.0 and the other 3.0 standard) ports, mini HDMI, a 3.5mm jack, dual-band WiFi ac and Bluetooth 5.0.
4. DisplayLenovo has outfitted its laptop with an 11.6-inch HD TN panel (1366x768) with 250 nits of brightness. Primebook also has an HD screen that stretches 11.6 inches.
Above the display, both laptops feature a 720P webcam.
5. SoftwareLenovo tells you it’s packing ChromeOS in the name. On the other hand, Primebook is carrying Android-based PrimeOS.
PrimeOS is an indigenous operating system that comes with 10,000+ Android apps, MDM (Mobile Device Management with parental lock and usage restrictions), etc. This coupled with 4G connectivity gets you a laptop that is aimed at a seamless transition for an Android phone user. Well, Chromebook also makes a similar pitch and has been in the market for a longer period. It is equipped with a Google Play Store to download Android apps as you want.
